Ultrasonic Testing

The Ultrasonic Testing Service is designed to measure and record sound waves and/or vibrations that are above audible sound (16-18kHz).  This service is used to complement the infrared service and determine if corona discharge, tracking, arcing and vibration are present.  Ultrasonic testing will help to assure the quality and integrity of your electrical system.  Due to the nature of ultrasonic waves, the testing can be done on “closed” systems. Our technicians are able to tell if there is arcing before they even open a panel or switchgear. 

 

Ultrasonic testing is perfect for finding or showing anything that has a failure mode due to vibration. 

Other uses are:

Bearings on motors.  Testing will show when they are failing.  Also analysis can be performed to detect when there is just enough grease applied to the bearings.

Find air leaks in compressed air lines.  Leaks in compressed air lines are one of the major wastes of energy in the United States in Industrial environments.

Leaks in tanks, valves or pipes under pressure from natural gas, steam or other compressed gases.

Leaks in steam heat traps.
